For the last month, federal workers on Long Island and around the country have been furloughed or asked to work without pay due to the unnecessary shutdown. Everyone has missed one paycheck and Friday will be their second check missed. With no end in sight, many of these workers are turning to food pantries for assistance.
Unions from across the Island are helping by taking part in a food drive for these affected workers. We are asking our members to donate non-perishable food items, personal care products, household supplies, pet food and other related items. Two drop off locations have been established. One is Assemblymember Charles Lavine's office, 1 School St Suite 303-b, Glen Cove, and the other is State Senator James Gaughran's office 99-111 South St Suite 250 in Oyster Bay. You can also drop food off at one of the Long Island Care Food Pantries. Monetary donations can be made by clicking here.
