Happy Indpendence Day

Thursday, July 2, 2020
As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day, albeit by social distancing and wearing masks, I must wonder how much longer will we be celebrating our country's history. Let us not forget that on July 4th, the Continental Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence, which had been written largely by Thomas Jefferson. Though the vote for actual independence took place on July 2nd, from then on the 4th became the day that was celebrated as the birth of American independence. These men who came together to write, adopt and sign the declaration were not perfect. They were men of the times in which it was written. Although not everyone was able to celebrate being free at the time it was signed, eventually, this document paved the way for all men and woman of all cultures and colors to be free. The Declaration of Independence states the principles on which our government, and our identity as Americans, are based.
Let us remember why people of all nationalities come to this country, to be free, that their children will have a better life then they did and to achieve the American Dream.

I hope everyone has a happy, safe, and healthy Fourth of July.
