Message from Billy Imandt, President
Hello again Brother and Sister COBANC members. There are important meetings and events coming up for the rest of October and November. All of these are posted on our website.
We have brought back the COBANC Dinner Dance and it's going to be a P-A-R-T-Y, NOT a political kiss-fest. The Dinner Dance will be held at the Chateau Briand located at 440 Old Country Road, Carle Place on Thursday, October 16th. Cocktails and are from 6:00 - 7:00 PM, dinner, awards and dancing from 7:00 - 11:00 PM. Dress to impress - this is our formal affair of the year. Ticket $60 for members and $90 for non-members. Call the office for more information 516-794-0600. We are honoring Bob Bennett, COBANC's first President (President's award), Sgt. Frank Barry (Member of the Year), Hon. Tammy Robbins (Fidelis Juri ), Assemblyman Joseph S. Saladino (Man of the Year), Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages (Woman of the Year), Joseph Carbone, Jr. Esq. (Jurisperitus) along with Distinguished Service, Merit, Meritorious Service and Life Saving awards to our past office holders and members. Please call the union office soon to reserve your spot at this wonderful event.
We will be holding a Driver Safety Course, in the union office in two sessions (both mandatory for certificate) on October 27th and October 30th. Both nights are from 5:30 to 8:30. There is a $35 fee. Contact Neil Schloth by calling or texting him at 516-516-603-3494 to reserve your spot. We can only accommodate up to 20 people (members and members family only please) so please don't delay.
As you probably know 11 metro area court unions have joined in an alliance over 6 core issues that every President (myself included) will not yield on - because most are givebacks with no bargained-for compensation. I will be attending all remaining eight meetings in the five boroughs, Westchester and Nassau. Please check our calendar for dates, times and locations. ALL members are encouraged to attend any and all of the meetings. As listed on our calendar our meeting will be at the Long Island Marriott, 101 James Doolittle Blvd., Uniondale, NY 11553 on October 23rd from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.
We will be holding a General Membership Meeting in District Court on October 29th from 6:00 to approximately 8:00 PM. Besides the regular course of business, our lawyer, Harry Greenberg, will be addressing the membership regarding what is being called the "Court Officer" lawsuit and, separately, our contract strategies. I have asked Harry to give me a written assessment of our chances of succeeding with a "me too" lawsuit and to cover other strategies that we have been discussing to get around possibly being time barred from pursuing this matter conventionally. We have also been scouring through the COBANC minutes of 2004, 2005, 2006 and forward to see what the Board and members were talking about and why they didn't join the lawsuit back then. This will all be discussed at our next Executive Board, Board of Directors and General Membership meetings in October. We will get to the bottom of this and see what we can do to make our affected members whole.
