9/11 Memorial Ride

Monday, September 9, 2019
Every year the Court Officers Benevolent Association of Nassau County (COBANC) honors the loss of the civilians and brave professionals who perished on September 11, 2001, especially our own Capt. William "Harry" Thompson, Sgt. Mitchel Wallace and Sgt. Thomas Jurgens. We will never forget.

This year we again plan to participate in an escorted motorcycle ride and ceremony that begins at Jones Beach State Park and travels to the Jacob J. Javits Center where we will stop for lunch. From there, we will retrace the route of Rescue 1 to the 9/11 Memorial Plaza, which is located at the site of the original World Trade Center in Manhattan. We would be proud to have you join us for this special event as we commemorate the fearless devotion to duty and service our personnel showed in responding to that terrible tragedy.

If you can't ride with us, please take the time to observe a moment of silence on September 11 at any or all of the following times marking key moments on 9/11.

8:46 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 11 crashes into the North Tower (1 WTC).
9:03 a.m.: United Airlines crashes into the South Tower (2 WTC).
9:37 a.m.: American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon.
9:59 a.m.: The South Tower (2 WTC) collapses.
10:03 a.m.: After learning of the other attacks, passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 launch a counterattack on hijackers aboard their plane. The plane crashes into an empty field near Shanksville, Pa.
10:28 a.m.: The North Tower (1 WTC) collapses.
